Walkey Midnight Walk 2008
The Walkley Midnight Walk & Presentation Evening 2008
The Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown has been organising the ‘Walkley Midnight Walk' on a twenty mile section of the Wiltshire Ridgeway for the last eighteen years. This year despite a downpour during most of the event, over 140 walkers took part and todate over £18,000.00 has been rasied for local and national charities.
The walk started at 11.00pm at the Red Lion Pub in Avebury after a courtesy coach transfered the walkers from the finishing point at the True Heart Pub in Bishopstone. The Club provided marshalls at all major junctions and road crossings and also provided a ‘4 Wheel Drive Tail-end Charlie' vehicle complete with qualified first aider to take care of any injured or exhausted walker unable to complete the walk. Along the route walk three refreshment areas were provided with snacks and both hot and cold drinks. Herbal Life also attended and provided free energy drinks at the start and at refreshment points
At the finishing point the True Heart Pub in Bishopstone a hearty english breakfast was served from 4.00am by Bryan and Mandy Hickton. The R.C. of Swindon Thamesdown are very greatful for all the help that Bryan, Mandy and the staff of the True Heart gave to the walkers and the Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown
