Walkley Midnight Walk 2009
A total of 141 brave souls donned their walking boots and packed their torches for the 20-mile Walkley Midnight Walk, organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown.
The fundraiser, which was in its 19th year, started at 11pm from the Red Lion pub, in Avebury, on Saturday 13th June saw the first walkers reach the True Heart pub, in Bishopstone, at 5am on Sunday. The event, which was open to all charities, and walkers from the CCIN Charity Swindon MS Therapy Centre, Swindon Guide Dogs for the Blind, NSPCC and Red Cross, and over thirty local national and international charities, raising over £19,500.
The club organises three refreshment stops, which were all free, marshalls, first aiders and coach transfers for the finish point in Bishopstone to the start in Avebury. The event put organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Theamesdown so that walkers and charities can raise money for their own particular causes. "The walk is done at night time because it's just something a bit different and the Club we will be presenting the money raised on 24th July at the True Heart pub in Bishopstone
